People magazine’s vote is in, and as far as we know, there will be no recount.
People’s editors have chosen George W. Bush and, get this, the state of Florida as part of their annual list of the most intriguing, The Associated Press reports.
Florida made the cut for both the story of Elian Gonzalez, the 7-year-old Cuban boy who arrived to the state on a lifeboat and was engulfed in a bitter custody battle between his father in Cuba and relatives in Florida, and for the state’s struggle over its 25 electoral votes between President-Elect Bush and Vice President Al Gore.
For those of you living under a rock, Gore conceded the election Wednesday night, making today Bush’s first official day as president-elect.
The “25 Most Intriguing People of 2000,” which hits newsstands Friday, features entertainers, politicians, athletes and other newsmakers.
Also making the cut this year were actress Meg Ryan, “Sex and the City’s” Sarah Jessica Parker, actor Michael J Fox and athletes Venus Williams and Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez, who this week signed a record $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers.
