Low was a property developer, but he got his break in movies after becoming Robert De Niro’s landlord and telling his pal he would like to work in films. De Niro got him into several of his movies including The Mission, King of Comedy and Once Upon a Time in America, but Low is best remembered for his turn as Morrie, who was based on real-life mob associate Martin Krugman and killed onscreen by an ice pick to the back of the neck.

De Niro remained friends with Low throughout the years and reportedly visited him at the facility several times, as did his The Mission co-star Liam Neeson.

Low also appeared in TV shows The Sopranos, Law & Order, and Tribeca, and last acted in 2003 movie Kill the Poor.

He was given a funeral with full military honours on 20 September in Edmonton, New York. He is survived by daughter Debra Low Mykrantz and son Mitchell Low.
