Guitarists pay tribute to late legend Paco De Lucia

Some of the music industry’s most high-profile guitarists have paid tribute to late legend Paco De Lucia following his death this week (beg24Feb14). The 66-year-old Spanish guitarist passed away in Mexico after suffering a heart attack during a beach outing with his family, and his death sent a shockwave through the music community.
Former Guns N’ Roses rocker Slash has now hailed De Lucia as his inspiration, writing in a post on Twitter.com, “Sad news abt (about) Paco De Lucia. 1 (sic) of the most phenomenal (guitarists) I’ve ever seen play. If u’ve (you’ve) never heard him u (sic) should chck (check) out his records. RIP.”
Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello adds, “RIP Paco de Lucia, outstanding flamenco guitarist. Friday Night in San Francisco… is an all time great, inspiring album.”
Queen’s guitarist Brian May was also devastated by news of De Lucia’s death, and posted a tribute message on his official blog, writing, “Saluting Paco de Lucia. A wonderful guitarist has passed away at the age of 66. A true master of the Spanish guitar – we salute you, Paco, and treasure the legacy you have given us. RIP Paco de Lucia.”
