Indie distributor yanks comedy from New York

Indie distributor Lot 47 Films has postponed the opening of Canadian director Gary Burns’ award-winning film waydowntown, which had been scheduled to debut in New York Friday night. The black comedy reportedly contains scenes in which characters leap to their deaths from high-rise buildings. The last-minute decision by the distributor was reportedly dictated by the Sept. 11 events at the World Trade Center (way downtown) in which some victims were seen falling from upper windows. Lot 47 said it will go ahead with plans to open the movie in 19 other cities by the end of November and is now planning to open it in New York in January.
