Insidious 2 tops charts on both sides of Atlantic

Low-budget horror movie Insidious: Chapter 2 is a big earner on both sides of the Atlantic after topping the U.K. box office with sales figures of $4.3 million (£2.87 million) in its opening weekend (13-15Sep13). The spooky sequel, which cost just $5 million (£3.33 million) to make and stars Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, smashed its competition in the U.S. by taking $41 million (£27.3 million) on its first weekend, and now it has repeated the feat in Britain.
Another new release, Rush, is in second place with takings of $3 million (£2 million), and fellow debutant White House Down is third with $1.65 million (£1.1 million).
Last week’s (ends13Sep13) frontrunner, About Time, has plunged to fourth place, with $1.5 million (£1 million) in sales, and the top five is rounded out by Justin and the Knights of Valour ($1.2 million/£831,000).
