James Brolin: ‘I prefer nights in with Barbra Streisand’

James Brolin and Barbra Streisand prefer a quiet night in to Hollywood parties, because the couple hates having to yell above the din of Tinseltown.
The stars recently celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary and Brolin reveals it was a quiet affair at a little restaurant just three minutes from their California home.
“We just went to dinner with a couple of people and made it really simple,” James tells Access Hollywood Live. “We can’t stand restaurants where you can’t hear each other… I get really tired trying to listen after 15 minutes, so we go to quiet places and there was a quiet place almost within a three-minute drive of our house.
“We have dinners every once in a while, but they’re limited to 12 and 14 people and a lot of times they’re filmmakers and maybe a few actors now and then. They’re just who we feel close to at the time.”
And Brolin admits he’d be happy if he and Babs never left home: “I’m a real stay-at-home person. She’s more (the one) to say, ‘We’re going to dinner here and we’re gonna get to sit next to such and such… I go and I have fun, but I’m not a person who will generate, ‘Let’s go out and do this and that’.”
However, Brolin reveals he does like to land film roles that take him off to countries he has never visited.
“To get a plane ticket to do a movie somewhere in the world, where you’ve never met anybody, you don’t know how you’re gonna do this, you don’t know where you’re gonna shoot, I love that. That’s creative.”
The actor is most excited about his upcoming TV film I’ll Be Home For Christmas, which features his wife’s rendition of the classic Kim Gannon, Walter Kent and Buck Ram title song.
“She gave it to me as a gift for Christmas to put in the movie, so it opens the movie.”
Brolin directs and stars in the Hallmark film.
