Jennifer Garner’s daughter wrote speech to celebrate California’s new anti-paparazzi law

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s daughter Violet has personally thanked Californian lawmakers for passing new anti-paparazzi legislation by delivering a heartfelt speech about the impact it will have on her life. Actresses Garner and Halle Berry successfully campaigned for photo laws to protect celebrities’ kids last year (13), and the new bill, which imposes tougher penalties on snappers who constantly tail public figures and their children in California, went into effect on 1 January (14).
The Dallas Buyers Club star reveals she and her husband Affleck celebrated the news by inviting lawmakers and police chiefs into their home to thank them for their support, and eight-year-old Violet decided to address the crowd to show her gratitude.
Discussing the proud moment on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Wednesday (09Apr14), she explained, “It (the law) has made the hugest difference in our lives, but particularly in our kids’ lives…
“We had the lawmakers who had been part of making this happen and the police chiefs who are going to enforce it over to our house before January 1st and our eldest daughter Violet really wanted to speak. She wrote a speech and she articulated what it meant for her, that this law was going to be passed and how different she thought it would make her life. And I think everyone just thought, ‘Oh, this really is about these kids’ experiences of the world’, and it’s been a beautiful, beautiful thing.”
Another acting couple, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, has taken the campaign one step further by calling on magazine, TV and blog editors to stop publishing unauthorised paparazzi shots of celebrities’ children, and encouraging members of the public to boycott purchasing any tabloids which continue to do so.
