Jerry G. Bishop dies at 77

Radio and TV personality Jerry G. Bishop has passed away at the age of 77. The Svengoolie creator died on Sunday (15Sep13), according to media critic Robert Feder.
Rich Koz, Bishop’s protege and current Svengoolie, took to Twitter.com on Tuesday (17Sep13) to pay homage to his mentor, writing, “The passing of the original Sven – my mentor and friend Jerry G. Bishop – just reminds me of his great heart and talent. Love you, Jerry.”
Bishop began his career in the 1970s, when he created the iconic character.
After moving to California in 1978 to host the daily live talk show Sun Up San Diego, Bishop won three Emmys. He stayed with the show until 1990, subsequently becoming a restaurateur.
