Judy Garland’s Ruby Slippers from ‘Oz’ Stolen

Late movie legend Judy Garland‘s ruby slippers from movie classic The Wizard of Oz have gone missing from their museum home.

The pair of magic shoes from the 1939 fantasy, insured for $1 million,
were stolen last weekend from a Grand Rapids museum in
Michigan, where Garland was born in 1922.

Police chief Leigh Serfling says, “There’s not a whole lot of evidence. We’re
hoping that someone in the community has seen something.”

Children’s Discovery Museum director John Kelsch adds, “The slippers are a
major attraction at our museum. It is our hope that the slippers can be
recovered immediately.”

The slippers belong to a Los Angeles man who had loaned them to the museum
this summer.

There are only four pairs of ruby slippers worn by Garland in the movie known
to exist, including one pair sold at Christie’s auction house in 2000 for
$666,000.
