The diminutive star was hospitalised after a lighting rig fell and struck her on the head, knocking her “out cold”, while they were filming the legal drama on the streets of New York.
The injury forced her to bow out of her recurring role as a top political reporter on the TV series, and Chenoweth admits that although she is feeling much better, she is still struggling with other side effects from the accident.
Speaking on U.S. morning show Live! With Kelly & Michael, she says, “I have a skull fracture and a rib issue and a hip issue. I’m just issue-ridden. But I’m getting better and I wear my neck brace on and off…
“I couldn’t really form a sentence very well after it happened. I’m the queen of multi-tasking – I’m not so good at that right now. And I’ll be like, ‘Oh mum, are you talking on that thing that you push… you, er…’ ‘The phone?’ ‘Yes’ So anyway that’s been interesting, but that’s been getting better. There’s still some pain and issues, but I just feel so blessed and lucky and grateful because it could have been a lot worse.”
Chenoweth reveals she briefly regained consciousness before being taken to hospital and she was pleasantly surprised to see her TV co-star Josh Charles by her side: “I woke up to the EMT (emergency medical technician) workers and Josh Charles… he was holding my hand. He’s my angel. Isn’t he a great guy? I almost get emotional (thinking about it)… I will say he was there and he held my hand…”
But one thing the actress didn’t expect was the unwanted visitors she got while she was being treated at the Big Apple’s Bellevue Hospital.
She adds, “I would have a hard collar on… and (the paparazzi) would come in and sneak pictures. I was like, ‘Really?'”
