Malaysia’s first gay-themed film a success

Dalam Botol, which tells the story of a man who undergoes a sex change, pulled in takings of $330,000 (£206,000) during its first five days in Malaysia’s cinemas.

The film’s ticket sales success is a breakthrough for the majority Muslim country – where same-sex relations are illegal – as leaders often ban any form of media which promotes homosexuality.

Earlier this month (Mar11), Lady Gaga urged her Malaysian fans to protest peacefully after pro-gay lyrics in her Born This Way track were censored by radio bosses in the country, while gay performer Adam Lambert faced fierce criticism from religious groups there over his gig in Kuala Lumpur last October (10).
