A lock of Sir Mick Jagger’s hair smashed estimates when it sold for around $6,200 (£4,000) at a London auction on Wednesday (03Jul13). The Rolling Stones frontman’s locks were snipped by his former girlfriend, model Chrissie Shrimpton, nearly 50 years ago and the cuttings were discovered by one of her relatives.
The unusual lot was expected to raise between $2,325 and $3,100 (£1,500 – £2,000), but the hair sparked a bidding frenzy at the Bonhams auction and eventually went to a private U.K. collector.
All proceeds from the sale will go to the Changing Faces charity, which supports those with facial disfigurements.
