Napoleon Dynamite producers sue over royalties

Bosses at Napoleon Pictures have filed suit against executives at Fox Searchlight Pictures, the independent division of 20th Century Fox, claiming they’ve been cheated out of home video revenue and TV licensing fees for the 2004 cult comedy.

The film, starring Jon Heder as a hapless high school student, grossed nearly $45 million (£28 million) at the U.S. box office and went on to become a top-selling home video.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday (30Aug11) in Los Angeles and obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, is seeking $10 million (£6.25 million) for breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation with respect to other income from the film.
