Pedro Almodovar eyeing first sci-fi film

The Volver director has become known for family-themed comedies and dramas, winning Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film for 1999’s Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother) and Best Original Screenplay for 2002’s Hable Con Ella (Talk to Her).

But Almodovar has always harboured dreams of filming his own out-of-this-world movie, modelled after his favourite 1950s movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

He says, “I am still young enough to make a science-fiction movie. I have ideas for this genre. The way I would like to do it is

present something impossible in a real, domestic way.”

And Almodovar has already got a project in mind: “One of the scripts on my desk is of that genre, so I hope to make that.”
