Poet Philip Levine scoops lifetime achievement honour

Philip Levine has been handed a $100,000 (£66,600) lifetime achievement award by the American Academy of Poets. The former U.S. poet laureate has scooped the Wallace Stevens Award for “outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry”.
Other award winners in the annual handout include Patricia Smith, who took the $25,000 (£16,600) Lenore Marshall prize for Shoulda Been Jimi Savannah, and John Taylor, who was honoured for his translation of poems by Italy’s Lorenzo Calogero.
