Producer won’t give BBC interactive rights to its shows

Although the BBC has asked independent producers to include proposals for interactive elements in new shows they pitch to the corporation, the Dutch entertainment giant Endemol says it has no intention of doing so. The British online newsletter Produxion quotes Peter Bazalgette, creative director for Endemol in the U.K., as saying “If I have another major proposition like Big Brother I am not going to take it to the BBC. We run our own Web site for Big Brother — that’s a bit of broadcasting real estate that we manage to control.” Bazalgette acknowledged that it may be difficult for producers to avoid surrendering interactive rights to the BBC. “BBC Online is completely massive,” he said.
