The star, son of Harry Potter actor Timothy Spall, has previously opened up about his battle with his weight, admitting he felt compelled to lose five-and-a-half stone (34.9 kilograms) when producers sent him offers to play fat characters.
And he pushed himself to shed even more pounds when he landed the lead role in his new comedy, so he wouldn’t look out of place opposite his on-screen love interest.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mail, “I wanted to look convincing enough that audiences would believe Rose Byrne would fancy me. I wanted to look well and healthy.”
