Rodriguez slept through Oscars triumph

Comeback king Rodriguez missed the biggest night of his life – he slept through an Oscars ceremony as the hit documentary that relaunched his career scooped a top honour. The singer/songwriter was catapulted into the limelight by 2012 film Searching for Sugar Man, which charts two fans’ quest to track down the forgotten folk star.
His unexpected taste of late fame culminated in February (13) when the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, but Rodriguez didn’t attend the ceremony, slept through the live TV broadcast, and only found out about the win when his daughter phoned to congratulate him.
He tells Uncut magazine, “There was too much to do that day. I don’t have TV service, so I didn’t catch it. My daughter Sandra called me and told me (about the win). It’s pretty stunning.”
