Sarah Paulson tries to avoid thinking about turning 50

Actress Sarah Paulson has to remind herself not to dwell too much on her advancing age as she approaches “the big 5-0”.
The star, who turned 43 in December (17), is busier than ever with multiple projects on the go, including her new ensemble heist movie Ocean’s 8, and her regular TV gigs on shows like American Crime Story and American Horror Story.
Sarah has become known for throwing herself into roles which require complete physical and emotional transformations, and admits taking on those such challenges is what fuels her love of acting.
“The more I can look in the mirror and not recognise myself, the more excited I am,” she tells Modern Luxury, according to People.com. “We’re constantly faced with all these ideas of beauty – things that Hollywood puts out there for us to gobble up. It’s very powerful when I look in the mirror and the first thing I’m thinking isn’t, ‘Are you pretty? Are you going to appeal to someone?’ I can work much more freely when I don’t have to concern myself with my looks.”
However, Sarah does occasionally worry about how her career may change when she reaches her next age milestone, because Hollywood hasn’t been kind to older actresses in the past.
“If being older means all the roles I’m getting to play now because of all the ups and downs and hills and valleys proceeding it, I say bring it on,” she begins, before admitting, “Every once in a while I’ll go, ‘Wow, (43). That’s seven years shy of 50.’ That’s the big 5-0.
“But then I go, ‘Stop running seven years down the road. You have no idea what your life will look like and where you’ll be.’ And that’s just what makes life so sweet. You cross your fingers, take a deep breath and jump. And that’s really all you can do.”
Sarah tries to apply the same approach to all aspects of her life, including her offscreen romance with veteran actress Holland Taylor, who, at 75, is 32 years her senior.
The couple began dating in 2015, and Sarah has repeatedly brushed off relationship critics, because her own happiness is all that counts.
“If anyone wants to spend any time thinking I’m strange for loving the most spectacular person on the planet, then that’s their problem,” she shrugs. “I’m doing just fine.”
