Sheryl Crow jumped at the chance to mentor wannabe singers with her country pal Blake Shelton on U.S. talent show The Voice after previously turning down an offer to be an original member of the reality judging panel. The All I Wanna Do singer reveals she was approached by TV bosses in 2010 to serve as one of four team leaders for the first season of the competition, but the Tennessee-based star turned down the gig because she feared she would struggle to handle the added responsibility on top of her job as a recording artist and a mum of two.
She tells U.S. talk show host Wendy Williams, “I actually was asked originally to be a judge on The Voice. I would have loved to have done it, but it’s a massive commitment and I didn’t want to move to L.A.” Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green ended up fronting the first three seasons of The Voice, but Crow was invited back into the fold as a guest mentor for the current fourth season to help the Honey Bee hitmaker’s group of hopefuls perfect their performances on the show. She adds, “I’ve been really fortunate.”
Aguilera and Green stepped down from the programme last year (12) and were replaced by Shakira and Usher for the latest run of The Voice. Green is expected to return to his spinning chair for the fifth season of the show.
