Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright prioritised The World’s End for cancer-stricken producer

Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright stepped up work on their new movie The World’s End after their producer friend Eric Fellner was diagnosed with cancer because they wanted him to see the finished film. The pair had been procrastinating over the third installment in their unofficial comedy trilogy when celebrated producer Fellner became ill, so they cleared their schedule and prioritised the film for him.
Fighting back tears, writer/director Wright tells Britain’s Culture magazine, “We (Pegg and I) promised we’d do it (finish the movie). Not to be morbid, but if for any reason Eric didn’t see it, I would never forgive myself. So Simon and I started writing – I’m starting to well up – Simon and I started writing two weeks later.”
Wright admits he postponed work on a blockbuster adaptation of comic book hero Ant-Man to finish The World’s End, which is due for release in the U.K. later this month (Jul13), just weeks after Fellner was reportedly given the all-clear in his cancer battle.
Fellner is named as a producer on The World’s End, as well as Wright and Pegg’s previous movie, 2007’s Hot Fuzz, while his film company, Working Title, also produced the first movie, 2004’s Shaun of the Dead.
