Sumner Redstone donates $100,000 to beat bullying

The Viacom Inc. chairman handed the money to bosses at the Safe to Talk Fund to set up the SchoolTipline, a service allowing students to send text messages reporting threats of violence, potential suicide cases and the presence of guns and drugs in schools.

The Los Angeles Times quotes Redstone as saying, “You can’t have a quality education without a safe environment, and that’s the whole point of my contribution. This will allow students to report violence, bad behaviour and threats of bad behaviour, without being identified – and without fear of retaliation.”
