A total of 38 works belonging to the late actress are being sold at Christie’s auction house beginning on 7 February (12).
Pieces include a Vincent van Gogh autumn landscape, estimated to be worth between $7.6 to $11 million (GBP4.8 million to GBP6.9 million), an Edgar Degas self-portrait and creations by Camille Pissarro and Auguste Renoir.
All proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Taylor Trust.
Christie’s Impressionist and Modern specialist Giovanna Bertazzoni tells the Associated Press, “Having grown up surrounded by fine art and surrounded by her own canvasses until the end of her life, this collection of paintings was very important to Miss Taylor.
“(The auction) provides collectors with not only a very interesting insight into the icon herself, but also an exciting opportunity to acquire important works by leading Impressionist and modern artists.”
This isn’t the first time the icon’s items have gone under the hammer – Taylor’s jewellery, clothing and movie memorabilia raised $156 million (GBP97.5 million) at a series of auctions in the Big Apple in December (11).
The Cleopatra star passed away in March, 2011, at the age of 79.
