Amanda Brumfield was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter in connection to the 2008 death of little Olivia Garcia, her best friend Heather Murphy’s one-year-old daughter who fell from a playpen and hit her head.
The 32 year old, who had been babysitting the tot, was initially acquitted of first-degree murder and aggravated abuse charges, but she was convicted of the lesser count in June (11). She was denied a retrial in August (11).
Brumfield appeared in an Orange County, Florida court for sentencing on Thursday (06Oct11), when she was handed the 20-year prison sentence. She was also ordered to pay $10,000 (£6,250) in legal costs.
Brumfield, Thornton’s daughter from his marriage to first wife Melissa Gatlin, had been facing up to 30 years behind bars.
