Tulisa Contostavlos: ‘Sex tape triggered nightmare’

Singer Tulisa Contostavlos has pinpointed the infamous leaking of her sex tape as the moment when her career and life spiralled out of control. The former N-Dubz star was a chart-topper in her native U.K. and a popular judge on The X Factor, but she was horrified and humiliated in 2012 when footage of her performing a sex act on a former boyfriend hit the Internet.
She managed to overcome the scandal but became mired in controversy again last year (13) after British newspaper The Sun on Sunday alleged she had brokered a cocaine deal for an undercover reporter.
The singer was charged over the incident but was cleared when the case collapsed last week (beg21Jul14), but her bad luck continued on Friday (25Jul14) when she was convicted of assault for punching a blogger at Britain’s V Festival last year.
Contostavlos has now spoken out to detail her two years of hell, and she blames the sex tape incident for catapulting her into controversy.
In a new BBC documentary, she says, “The tape is where it all went wrong for me mentally. When it was leaked I felt like I had lost control again… I found it so hard to face people again.”
Asked during an interview with U.K. TV show This Morning when she was last “truly happy”, she replies, “Truly, truly happy? I would say, like, two years ago, before the tape came out.”
