Disney Chairman Michael Eisner has been taking an increasingly active
role in the operations of the company’s motion picture division since
the departure of studio chairman Peter Schneider last June, attending
story meetings and commenting even on some of the coarse language in
dialogue, the Wall Street Journal reported today.
“I
want to understand why comedies have to be gross,” Eisner told the
newspaper. “I don’t get why comedies have to go that extra inch.” The
company chairman’s new hands-on activism has apparently not upset other
top studio execs, the Journal indicated.

Pictures Group President Nina Jacobson was quoted as saying: “I went
into the arrangement with some anxiety because I didn’t know how
Michael‘s input would affect my business. …But creatively, it’s
actually been a surprisingly good ride so far.”
