Winona Ryder recalls bullying horror

Hollywood actress Winona Ryder has recalled her misery after she was forced to drop out of high school because of bullies. The Edward Scissorhands star has revealed she left Kenilworth Junior High School in Petaluma, California after some of her fellow students allegedly hurled homophobic language at her when they mistook her for a boy because of her short haircut.
She tells V Magazine, “I was obsessed with Bugsy Malone and had cut my hair short. I remember the halls were empty and these kids started shouting fa***t and I didn’t think they were talking to me.”
The actress’ parents, Michael and Cynthia Horowitz, decided to home school her following the incident, which led to the star enrolling at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California, where she was first discovered and cast in 1986 film Lucas.
She adds, “Had I not been home-schooled I would not have been able to go… It’s almost weird fate that it happened that way.”
