Corrina, Corrina musical adaptation in the works

Broadway veteran Audra Mcdonald is set to star in a stage adaptation of 1994 film Corrina, Corrina. In the movie, Whoopi Goldberg portrayed an African-American housekeeper who helps a father, played by Ray Liotta, and his young daughter cope with the loss of his wife, and 20 years after its debut, director Jessie Nelson is bringing the story back to life.
Nelson, who wrote, directed and produced the movie, is working on a musical version for the stage along with Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken.
Six-time Tony Award-winning actress McDonald is expected to play Goldberg’s titular role of Corrina.
Nelson is currently working on another film to stage adaptation – Waitress, based on Keri Russell’s 2007 film. The musical features a score by Sara Bareilles and the production will premiere at Cambridge, Massachusetts’ American Repertory Theater next August (15).
