Jake Gyllenhaal’s new crime thriller Nightcrawler has crept its way to the top of the North American box office chart to tie with horror film Ouija at number one. Nightcrawler debuts with just $10.9 million (£6.8 million) in a slow Halloween weekend (31Oct-02Nov14) to share first place with last week’s (ends26Oct14) most popular film, although that could change come Monday (03Nov14), when the final box office figures are released.
Brad Pitt’s World War II drama Fury slips to three with $9.1 million (£5.7 million), while Gone Girl and animated children’s film The Book of Life round out the new top five.
