Rhino gets Theron’s attention

A rare black rhinoceros being kept in South Africa now has a Hollywood star pleading for her life–South Africa native Charlize Theron. Virginia businessman David Laylin plans to sell the rhino, Baixinha, to a Norwegian big-game hunter for $60,000. Baixinha would then be used as part of a canned hunt. Theron sent a letter, which was released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, to Laylin begging him to release the rhino to sanctuary, according to The Associated Press. Laylin, who tried unsuccessfully to breed the rhino, bought Baixinha 12 years ago for $90,000 and says that he can’t afford to just give her away. Laylin said he be glad to sell her to a conservation group if it would be willing to pay the $60,000 fee.
