The Commitments heading to the West End

Hit comedy drama The Commitments has been adapted into a musical and is heading to London’s West End theatre district. The Oscar-nominated film, about a Dublin soul band in the 1980s, was based on Roddy Doyle’s book of the same name, and the author has now reworked his best-selling novel into a stage extravaganza.
Doyle reveals he was asked on several occasions to transform his tale for the theatre, but always refused – until now.
He tells Reuters, “So I kind of ignored it for years and then as my children got older and I began to bring them to the occasional musical… I began to enjoy a lot of it.”
The musical will open at London’s Palace Theatre on 21 September (13).
