Demi Lovato preaches self-love and acceptance as she ushers in 2015

Pop star Demi Lovato ushered in 2015 by encouraging fans to “cherish” and “love” their bodies after overcoming her own self-confidence issues and eating disorder troubles last year (14). The Skyscraper hitmaker, who has been open about her battle with bulimia and her subsequent stint in a treatment facility in 2013, took to Instagram.com on New Year’s Eve (31Dec14) and shared two photos of herself to compare her previous figure to her more slimline look in 2014.
Alongside the side-by-side snaps, she shared an inspirational message with fans, insisting learning to love herself at any weight has been key to her recovery.
She wrote, “I was beautiful then, and I’m beautiful now. I decided to focus on bettering myself by making changes in my life with health, balance, endurance and consistency.
“You don’t have to wait till the beginning of the new year to make resolutions for yourself. It’s all about loving and taking care of the only body you will ever have… Cherish it, love it, embrace it. Because when you do… it begins to show. Goodbye 2014. Who’s excited for what we can accomplish in 2015?!! Let’s do this!!!”
The note comes weeks after Lovato revealed she has her actor boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama to thank for helping her stay healthy after almost suffering a setback in her eating disorder battle while on the road.
She told Fitness magazine, “I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer. I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief.
“I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it. Now I’m on a structured meal plan.”
