The real life inspiration behind Laurie Lee’s famous book Cider With Rosie has died just days before filming on a new TV adaptation kicked off. Rosie Buckland, who was believed have inspired the title character in the tale of Lee’s younger years, died aged 99 in Cheltenham, England on Saturday (13Sept14).
Her death came just days before work started on the BBC’s new adaptation of the 1959 memoir, which reportedly began on Monday (15Sep14) close to the author’s hometown in Gloucestershire, England.
The new show is the third TV adaptation of Lee’s story – Juliet Stevenson previously starred in a 1998 version.
Lee died in 1997.
