Bruce Willis “stepping away” from acting, Hollywood showers family with support

Bruce Willis, the iconic actor also known as cop John McClane in the Die Hard franchise and starring roles in The Sixth Sense and Pulp Fiction, is hanging up his acting hat due to an aphasia diagnosis.

Ex-wife and fellow starlet Demi Moore announced the news on Instagram, addressing all of Bruce’s “amazing supporters.”

“Our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” Demi shared on Instagram on Wednesday, March 30. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

What is aphasia?

Aphasia is a condition that “robs you of your ability to communicate,” impacting your ability to write, speak, and understand written and spoken language. Family members are often heavily involved in the treatment process, which usually includes speech or language therapy.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” Demi continues. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”

Demi closes the post reminding us all to “Live it up,” claiming her family plans to do just that.
