The 2026 Oscar nominations have officially been announced, and this year’s list is already one for the history books. Leading the pack is Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s supernatural thriller, which earned a staggering 16 nominations — the most ever received by a single film in Academy Awards history. The achievement surpasses the previous record of 14 nominations held by classics like Titanic, All About Eve, and La La Land.
Close behind is Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, which secured 13 nominations, including acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro, and Sean Penn, along with a Best Picture nomination.
In contrast, one of the most talked-about surprises of the morning was the complete snub of Wicked: For Good. The sequel to the 2024 hit Wicked failed to receive a single nomination, despite the original film earning 10 nods and winning two Oscars. Other high-profile films, including Avatar: Fire and Ash, underperformed, receiving just two nominations.
Beyond the numbers, the 2026 Oscar nominations also brought historic moments. Timothée Chalamet became the youngest actor since Marlon Brando to earn three Best Actor nominations, while Kate Hudson received her first nomination in over two decades. With surprises, snubs, and record-breaking wins, this year’s Oscars promise plenty of drama leading up to the ceremony on March 15.
