Florida Keys Own Fred The Tree Heading To Hollywood

The Florida Key West tree, Fred the Tree, is an iconic mark of nature, growing out of the seven mile bridge. While known to a lot of Florida Key residents, Fred the Tree is heading to Hollywood! The tree will be in the Road House remake. And we heard the news from the tree’s Facebook account.

Road House will remake their 1984 cult classic

The original film starred Patrick Swayze, a talented bouncer who ends up saving a small Missouri town. Now, the movie will take place at in the Florida Keys with Jake Gyllenhaal starring as the Patrick Swayze character.

Keys Film Commissioner Chad Newman told WLRN where Fred will come up in the film. “The main character [played by] Jake Gyllenhaal arrives on a Greyhound Bus,” Newman said. They’re going to drive over the Seven Mile Bridge and they’re going to see Fred the Tree.”

History of Fred the Tree 

According to the Florida Keys website, Fred is salt spray Casuarina (also known as an Australian Pine). He grows out of the old Seven Mile Bridge. The tree has survived things from hurricane Irma to human interaction.

During the holidays, people decorate the tree with festive lights to get people in the holiday spirit. You can catch people from in state and out of state wanting to visit this special tree. And now it will be making its big debut on the silver screen!
