Miley Cyrus‘ mum Tish Cyrus feared the singer was suffering from a serious condition when she was born after doctors discovered her lungs were underdeveloped.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker was born three weeks early and Tish did not initially think there were any complications.

However, after her mother and a nurse noticed Miley was making a strange sound when she was breathing, the doctors subsequently determined she needed to be placed in an incubator.

Recalling the story on The Talk, in response to host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue about his infant son’s heart disease and surgery, she said, “They laid her on my stomach and two minutes later my mom goes, ‘She’s making this grunting sound,’ and I was like, ‘No,’ and the nurse was like, ‘Actually she is’.

“They whisked her away and then you just start to panic,” she continued. “So her lungs weren’t developed and she was in an incubator for eight days on 100 per cent oxygen. I couldn’t hold her, everything was through the incubator and they’re so tiny… As you’re seeing that it’s so scary. It’s just praying and having your friends and family (around you).”

She continued, “With Miley it wasn’t heart disease so I can’t imaging getting that news and knowing that they’re going to take your little infant to open heart surgery.”

Kimmel tearfully opened up about his newborn son, William John Kimmel’s, terrifying ordeal on Monday (01May17).

“On Monday morning, Dr. Vaughn Starnes opened his chest and fixed one of the two defects in his heart,” he said. “He went in there with a scalpel and did some kind of magic that I couldn’t even begin to explain. He opened the valve, and the operation was a success. It was the longest three hours of my life.”

The infant returned home on Sunday (30Apr17) following the operation.
