What is Read Across America Day?
Read Across America Day (formerly known as Dr. Seuss Day, but renamed to focus on more diverse and inclusive children’s books) is a nationwide holiday that encourages children from all over the country to read.
But why stop at children? Bring out your inner child with these children’s books written by Hollywood celebrities!
Once upon a time in Hollywood…
At the very beginning of quarantine (sheesh that was almost one year ago), celebrities went on the @savewithstories Instagram to read children’s books to families across the globe.
Hollywood celebs from near and far hopped on screen to read a children’s book.
Celebrities like Taye Diggs (who read Chocolate Me by him), Kate Winslet (who read The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss), Gabrielle Union (who read Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry), and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex (who read Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal along with her son Archie) participated. Some celebrities read classic children’s books while others read their very own children’s books.

At the beginning of quarantine, Dolly Parton hosted a read-aloud YouTube series called Goodnight with Dolly, where she read select Imagination Library books to fans. See episode eight below where she reads her own book called I Am a Rainbow:
