In an expected and understandable move, the parents of late R&B singer Aaliyah filed suit Monday against Virgin Records and Blackhawk International Airways as the result of the 22-year-old singer’s tragic death in a plane crash last August.
Aaliyah and her crew had been in the Bahamas shooting a music video when they chartered a flight back to Florida earlier than expected. The Associated Press reports that the suit cites the defendants as being negligent and reckless in causing the Cessna 402-B aircraft to crash, killing all nine passengers on board. Investigators have determined the twin-engine craft was at least 700 pounds overweight.
Families of two other crash victims also filed suits Monday.
