FRESH FACE: ‘Adoration’ Star Devon Bostick

Fresh Face: Devon Bostick

His Current Gig: Bostick plays Simon, a controversy-creating high schooler, in famed indie director Atom Egoyan ’s latest film Adoration — the heavy hitter at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

You Know This Face Because … If you paid close attention to Saw IV and George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead, you might have spotted Bostick in bit parts. But the 16-year-old is not just a one-note horror flick hopper or an indie darling; he does TV work … in Canada!

Why So Fresh? The Toronto-based Bostick is the scion of industry veterans (Mom is casting director Stephanie Gorin and Dad is actor Joe Bostick). Although young Bostick grew up in film and TV, he has managed to fly under the star radar … until now, of course.

What’s Next: Saw VI and the Romero sequel … Land of the Dead. Bostick currently attends performing arts school in Toronto and plans to pursue his career at either Ryerson or UCLA, after, ya know, high school.

In His Own Words: “When I first started acting,” Bostick told Playback magazine, “I must have been annoying. I asked a lot of questions about my characters to get it down to the tiniest part.”

Why We Love Him: Bostick is a teenage cutie with savvy indie taste. His 2006 film Citizen Duane screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and Adoration was nominated for Cannes’ Palme d’Or grand prize. But just because Bostick makes hip, artsy films doesn’t mean he’s free of average teenage anxiety. Of film premieres, he says: “That could be scary. I’ve never been on a red carpet. I don’t know what to wear, who to talk to or what to say.” We find these jitters endearing.
