Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, the beloved co-stars of When Harry Met Sally, are set to reunite on the Oscars stage to honor the late filmmaker Rob Reiner. Sources confirm that Crystal will speak about Reiner during the In Memoriam segment, while Ryan and other stars of Reiner’s iconic films will join him on stage.
Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically found dead in their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported that both died from multiple sharp force injuries. Reiner’s son, Nick, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. He pleaded not guilty on February 23 and is scheduled for a court appearance on April 29.
Following the deaths of Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner, a group of the director’s closest friends and collaborators—including Billy Crystal, Larry David, Martin Short, and Albert Brooks—released a joint statement celebrating his extraordinary career.
“Absorbing all he had learned from his father Carl and his mentor Norman Lear, Rob Reiner not only was a great comic actor, he became a master storyteller,” the statement read. “From comedy to drama to ‘mockumentary’ to documentary he was always at the top of his game. He charmed audiences. They trusted him. They lined up to see his films.”
The statement concluded with a heartfelt tribute, quoting one of Reiner’s favorite films, It’s a Wonderful Life. The quote reads: “Each man’s life touches so many other lives, and when he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he? You have no idea.”
The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The ceremony will air live on ABC and will be available to stream on Hulu. The news of Crystal and Ryan’s appearance comes just hours after it was confirmed that Barbra Streisand is in talks to perform during the In Memoriam segment, honoring her The Way We Were co-star Robert Redford.
