Pixar is back with a fresh burst of creativity in Hoppers, a delightfully unhinged animated film that proves the studio still knows how to surprise audiences. Directed by Daniel Chong and written by Jesse Andrews, the movie blends comedy, environmental themes, and sci-fi adventure in a way that feels both whimsical and unexpectedly daring.

Hoppers Review
The story follows Mabel Tanaka (voiced by Piper Curda), a 19-year-old environmental activist and college misfit who adores animals more than people. When the beavers in her beloved forest glade mysteriously disappear, Mabel discovers a high-tech experiment by her biology professor, Dr. Sam (Kathy Najimy), called Hoppers. This experiment allows a human mind to “hop” into a robot animal and interact with real wildlife. Ignoring Dr. Sam’s warnings, Mabel becomes a robot beaver and ventures into the forest, hoping to bring the animals back.

Inside the forest, Mabel meets a colorful animal community, including the friendly beaver king George (Bobby Moynihan), a grumpy bear, and a host of other quirky woodland creatures. The film’s humor is absurd and unpredictable, with clever nods to classics like Avatar, The Birds, and Jaws. Pixar’s signature blend of heart and comedy shines as Mabel navigates misunderstandings, slapstick chaos, and surprising lessons about coexistence between humans and animals.
While Hoppers occasionally flirts with darker moments, its overall tone is lively and entertaining. Fans of Pixar and newcomers alike will appreciate the film’s bold storytelling, oddball humor, and environmental message. Before seeing Hoppers on the big screen, watch the official trailer below.
