Officials of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences,
the group that presents the annual Grammy awards, intend to recommend
that a sexual assault case filed against its $2-million-a-year CEO, C.
Michael Greene, be settled for more than half a million dollars, the
Los Angeles Times reported today.
According to the
newspaper, the matter has touched off internal conflict within the NARAS
board, with at least 12 of the 41 trustees calling for Greene’s firing.
Ironically, the charges against Greene were brought by Jill Geimer, who
was hired last year to head up the organization’s human resources
department that, among other things, monitors harassment incidents.
In
1996, six other women claimed that Greene subjected them to sexual
harassment, but an internal investigation concluded that their claims
were groundless.
