When you watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the first time chances are you had fun and tried to take it all in. But even if you hung on to every word of the movie you probably missed a reference, cameo, or Easter egg. Thanks to hardcore fans people have been watching the movie again and again to get every last one. So what did you miss? Here are ten things you probably didn’t notice the first time you watched the movie. SPOILERS AHEAD!
1. There is another Game of Thrones crossover
It was announced pretty early on that Gwendoline Christie would act as a stormtrooper, but you might have missed another GOT cast member. Thomas Brodie-Sangester worked on the dark side and was one of the many freaking out when Finn and Poe were taking off with one of their spacecrafts.
2. James Bond was the tricked stormtrooper
Another famous cameo you missed was Daniel Craig. When Rey starts using the force she tricks a stormtrooper to release her and drop his weapon. Well apparently he is very weak minded because he fell for it.
3. 2187 is a callback
What’s in a name? A pretty awesome reference! Fin’s name used to be 2187, which is the same cell number that Leia was imprisoned in.
4. There are multiple hints to Rey’s father.
All we know explicitly is that Rey was dropped off with the promise of someone coming back to her. But there are multiple hints that Luke is her father. One is that we see her wear a rebel pilot’s helmet in the beginning similar to what Luke once wore. Also Rey’s first outfit above is modeled after what Luke would have worn if he was a woman like Lucas once planned.
5. Rey is hearing Obi-Wan’s voice after she touches Luke’s lightsaber
J.J. Abrams asked Ewan McGregor to come back to voice Obi-Wan for this scene. He did to say, “Rey … these are your first steps.” However Alec Guinness also helped thanks to an audio file where he said “afraid.” According to Cinema Blend, they cut that down to where it sounds like “Rey” and used it. Therefore both Obi-Wan Kenobis are in the movie.
6. “Starkiller” was previously going to be used in the series in a different way
The most recent Star Wars weapon took this name, but it was going to be Luke’s last name until Lucas changed it to Skywalker. According to Salon, the second draft was even titled “Adventurers of the Starkiller, Episode One: The Star Wars.”
7. Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, is in several scenes rocking Leia buns
It only makes sense that if your mom is Leia you would want to get in on the action. Lourd is in the background of several scenes. One of them is when everyone, including Leia, is planning the final attack on the Starkiller, and another is when Leia is saying goodbye to Rey at the end of the film.
8. Luke’s jedi training tool was in the movie.
You might have been paying more attention to Finn and Chewbacca’s bickering to notice this. Finn picks up the remote Luke trained with while finding something to mend Chewie’s arm.
9. Snoke might be Darth Plagueis
We didn’t get to see much of the character, but this isn’t our first time coming across him. In Episode III Emperor Palpatine tells Darth Vader a story about Darth Plagueis to the same background music used for Snoke’s scenes. Is this a sign of Snoke’s true identity?
10. The skull from Boba Fett’s helmet is in the film.
This is another one of those Easter Eggs that are easy to miss. One of the banners in this scene is from Boba’s realm thanks to the matching skull. There are more references to The Phantom Menace in the banners that can be match to podracers including Anakin Skywalker, Aldar Beedo, and more.
