S11E13: Believe it or not, America got it almost right. There’s just one American Idol contestant I’d like to switch out of the top 10, but overall we’ve got a fairly solid group. Of course, the judges thankfully remedied a few of America’s mistakes with their three wild card picks, but this may be the least upsetting top 10 chosen by votes in recent memory. In the past, we’ve gotten a few of the prettier, more lacking contestants caught up in the populous’ web only to be crushed under the weight of the competition. I feared voters would pick pretty, pretty princess Baylie Brown or Bieber look-a-like Eben Franckewitz over more talented options, but they got it right. Even Jermaine Jones made it into the voter set.

When it came time to pick wild cards, the judges brought forward Brielle Von Hugel, Deandre Brackensick, Jeremy Rosado, Erika Van Pelt, Jen Hirsh and Reed Grimm. It became apparent very quickly that Jen’s deficiencies weren’t limited to her attempt at Adele and Brielle apparently didn’t learn the lesson from Eben and Jen’s attempts, because she tried to win her spot back with Adele’s “Someone Like You” – arguably the most difficult song on 21. Jen and Brielle fell flat, so it was left to the four remaining contestants. I, personally, hoped Reed would make it over Erika or Jeremy, but Jimmy Iovine’s critique was correct: he’s just not right for this competition. In the end, you really can’t complain about their choices – especially Deandre.(Thank you, Steven.) America needs to wake up; Deandre is far too talented to be sent home so early.
