‘Rocko’s Modern Life’ Is Coming Back With An All New Hour-Long Special!

The TV Gods have answered our prayers and made all of our ’90s nostalgia dreams come true. Rocko’s Modern Life left the air in 1996, but 20 years later Nickelodeon is bringing back the quirky animated series for a brand new one-hour special!

For those of you who don’t remember, Rocko’s Modern Life followed the zany story of an Australian immigrant wallaby called Rocko and his friends Heffer Wolfe (a cow) and Filburt (a hypochondriac turtle). The show originally aired between 1993 and 1996 for 52 episodes and raised quite a bit of controversy for its inappropriate jokes that somehow slipped past the network. Rocko technically worked as  phone sex operator, and the restaurant they frequented was called The Chokey Chicken (which was later renamed The Chewy Chicken when execs caught on).

The one hour special will be executive produced by Joe Murray, the show’s creator.

“I’m very happy to be rejoining Rocko and my friends from O-Town again,” said Joe Murray in a statement. “What I have found by bringing these characters back is that it’s not so much about nostalgia, but a sense that they still feel relevant and fresh to me, and after twenty years, they can’t wait to comment on modern life in the 21st century. They still have a lot to say.”

The announcement of the revival comes exactly 25 years of the original launch of Nickelodeon’s creator-driven animated shows like Rugrats, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Doug. Casting and an air date for the Rocko’s Modern Life revival haven’t been announced yet but should be sorted out in the coming months.
