The Second Season Of ‘Jessica Jones’ Will Feature ALL Female Directors

With the continued discussion surrounding the lack of equality for women in Hollywood, Marvel and Netflix are taking some major steps in the right direction. Fans of Marvel’s Jessica Jones starring the badass Krysten Ritter should be super stoked to hear that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and her crew have hired only women to direct the next season of the superhero series. In comparison, only three of the nine directors from the first season were women.

The second season of the series will have 13-episodes and will not premiere until at least 2018 because the crew is only halfway through the writing process.

Jessica Jones isn’t the first to make such a kickass move, Ava DuVernay was the first showrunner to exclusively hire only women to direct her critically acclaimed OWN series, Queen Sugar.

The most recent report from the Director’s Guild Of America shows a major increase in female directors and directors of color during the 2015–2016 TV season compared to the year prior. Even still, the numbers aren’t exactly robust.

What do you guys think? Are you excited to see more women behind the camera?
