Whoopi Goldberg Shocks as She Supports Dogfighter Michael Vick

Comedienne Whoopi Goldberg wasted no time in making her debut as a co-host on TV show The View a controversial one–offering her support to dogfighting villain Michael Vick.

The comic was just 15 minutes into the show on Tuesday when she brought up Vick’s conviction on dogfighting charges, and suggested no one should have been surprised by the shocking news that the football icon was caught up in the illegal blood sport.

Goldberg said, “You know from his background this is not an unusual thing for where he comes from.

“There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country.”

Shocked by the statement, Goldberg‘s co-host Joy Behar asked, “How about dog torture and dog murdering?”

The Ghost star shot back, “Unfortunately it’s part of the thing. You’re a dog lover. For a lot of people dogs are sport.”

Pointing out that Vick was raised in the South, the comedienne noted that her feelings would have been different if the disgraced athlete was a New Yorker.

She added, “This is part of his cultural upbringing… This is a kid who comes from a culture where this is not questioned.”

Vick entered a guilty plea in federal court in Richmond, Virginia, last month. He admitted to helping kill six to eight pit bulls and supplying money for gambling on the fights.
