Because Lady Gaga refuses to be upstaged by the rest of the world, she released her new video for “Born This Way” the morning after the Oscars. Now instead of talking about how adorable pregnant Natalie Portman was when she won her Oscar or how stoned James Franco was the whole night or even how Gwyneth Paltrow looked like she bathed in mercury before hitting the red carpet last night, we have to — YES, IT’S A REQUIREMENT — talk about this video. Well played, Gaga. Well played.
While I’m a little disturbed by the birth scene that precedes the actual music video and the fact that the woman is no bigger than a toothpick splinter, I have to admit the video is pretty great. I still think the song is terrible; the video — or should I say short film — is probably more than than the song deserves. (Seriously, High School Musical offers more artistic sensibilities than “Born This Way.”) Alright, bitching session is over.
