Fans of classic sci-fi comedy have reason to celebrate as the long-awaited sequel to Spaceballs is officially on the way. Nearly four decades after the original film debuted, Amazon MGM Studios has announced that the follow-up will hit theaters on April 23, 2027, marking a major return for one of comedy’s most beloved cult classics.
The original Spaceballs, released in 1987 and directed by Mel Brooks, parodied blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and quickly earned a loyal following. Now, Brooks is back and joined by returning cast members Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and George Wyner, bringing nostalgia and continuity to the new installment.

The sequel also introduces a fresh lineup of talent, including Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan, signaling a blend of old-school humor and modern comedic energy. Gad, who also co-wrote the script alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, has teased the project as one of his most exciting creative endeavors to date.
Directing duties fall to Josh Greenbaum, known for his work in comedy, while powerhouse producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are backing the film through Imagine Entertainment. Despite the excitement, key details such as the official title and plot remain under wraps, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

The original film grossed over $38 million at the box office but gained even greater popularity over time as a cult favorite. Its clever satire, memorable characters, and iconic one-liners have kept it relevant for generations.
With its mix of returning legends and new comedic voices, the Spaceballs sequel aims to capture the magic of the original while introducing the franchise to a new audience. As the release date approaches, one thing is certain: the Schwartz will once again be with us.
